After hiking Diamond Head, visiting the North Shore, touring the Dole Plantation, visiting Ioloni Palace, walking Chun’s Reef and touring the island by car, you get the picture…. there was still something missing. I hadn’t seen it all and couldn’t bear the thought of leaving without trying to see all of Oahu’s beauty.
Seriously, how can you travel all the way to Oahu and not see it all? As we were traveling the
Pali Highway, I saw a helicopter in the distance. Then it hit me! I haven’t taken a helicopter tour. Out
came the Iphone and the research began.
The Blue Skies of Hawaii tour with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters spoke to my soul. They offer several
tours of various lengths and prices but I chose the Blue Skies of Oahu for 45 minutes.
Can you tell I’m just a little excited?
Our take off was a breeze, as in easy, but the excitement was at an all-time high, literally. As we took off and flew toward the Honolulu coast line they played the theme song for Hawaii 5-0 through our headphones. Not the new 5-0 remake, but the original. If you don’t remember the hit TV series from the 80’s, it was the business. Sure the reruns are are corny now, but in the 80’s, Tom Selleck and his red Ferrari were cool!
We flew over Diamond Head which was perfect since I had just hiked to the top the day before. I was actually amazed at how big it really was. I’ll be honest, during the hike I was feeling at little weak and less in shape than I thought I was. So needless to say, seeing just how big it really is gave me a big boost of athletic confidence.
