This is my first time to fly to London from Denver International Airport. Since I live in Dallas/Fort Worth, it may be the only time. Not because anything was wrong, just crazy circumstances.
All airports are fundamentally the same…. planes arrive and planes leave. They are the great people shufflers of the 21st century. But spending seven extra hours at an airport shines a light on a few differences.
At Denver International Airport United is King. Don’t expect the British Airways staff to be at the ticket counter before 1pm. It probably won’t happen. So when my flight arrived from DFW at 10:15am, I had a bit of a wait before I could recheck my luggage and get to the lounge.

Once I got to the lounge, I realized there was a pretty big difference between Denver’s lounge and DFW’s lounge. If you’re accustomed to the luxury in British Airways and American Airlines First Class lounges, you might be a little disappointed.
Firstly, British Airways and American Airlines lounges are combined into one lounge at Denver International Aiport. This in no way causes a problem, but by doing so you lose the uniqueness each lounge normally provides.

British Airways is desirable for their classic British faire. You won’t find any of this in Denver. Likewise, the American Airlines lounge is known for it’s quiet spaces for commuting work travelers to catch up on work. The combined lounge did have an area appointed for work only.

Unfortunately, while I was there no one observed the signs and didn’t adhere to the spirit of the quiet areas. This really didn’t cause a problem for me, I just enjoyed listening to the excitement of fellow passengers as they talked about their first trip to Europe.

One thing that is exactly the same as DFW is the welcoming front desk staff. Checking into the lounge is handled very efficiently and professionally. When the staff is friendly it sets the tone, and the tone was warm and friendly.

The combined lounge is well appointed with all the basic necessities such as gourmet coffee, fruit infused water, various snacks, sandwiches and a full bar. So it can’t be all that bad, right?

It is a bit smaller than I’m used to but it has lots of windows open to the airport so I never felt closed in or claustrophobic.

All in all, it is a nice lounge. They have work centers set up with access to printers. And if you love to stock up on your exotic magazines, they do have a few to chose from.

I didn’t have any with me, but if you are traveling with little ones, there is also an area fitted out just for the kiddos. It might keep them occupied for a while, but I mostly saw kids clamoring for their parents technology. Go figure.

I hope this helps if you are traveling through Denver International Airport. Normally when I fly to Denver it is my final destination. So this has never been an issue for me.
But if for some reason you do have a layover at Denver International Airport you will be well taken care of. Just be aware, you won’t have the spa services, showers or sleeping areas.
